Subject Guide for Libraries

Each research guide provides internet links and resources selected by our reference staff:

• Chicago Public Library - Information about Chicago's Harold Washington Library and branches. Also available are the library's digital collections and links to information about Chicago.
• College of DuPage Library - Community college library in Glen Ellyn, Il.
• Elmhurst College Library - Private 4-yr college library in Elmhurst, Il.
• Find-It! Illinois -- Statewide Illinois Library Catalog (SILC) - Searches the catalogs of all Illinois libraries, including public, academic, and corporate.
• FirstSearch - Log in with your library card number and pin
  "Worldcat" database covers thousands of libraries, mostly in the United States.
• I-Share - Catalog includes the holdings of 65 college and university libraries in Illinois.
• Internet Public Library - The IPL is the product of a consortium of the Library and Information Science schools of 13 American universities. It is a directory of web resources selected by students and faculty of these schools.
• LibDex - Worldwide index of library catalogs - The LibDex directory contains entries for 18,000 libraries worldwide. Included are links to library webpages, online catalogs, library blogs, and more.
• Library Integrated Network Consortium (LINC) Catalog - Includes Villa Park Public Library and eight others.
• Library of Congress - In addition to access to catalogs, the Library of Congress provides a tremendous amount of freely available online content.
• Metropolitan Library System - "SWAN" database includes catalogs of libraries in the Metropolitan Library System.
• Presidential Libraries - Guide to each of the Presidential Libraries provided by the National Archives and Records Administration. Includes guidelines on researching and requesting copies of documents.
