Salary: $13.00 / hour
The Villa Park Public Library seeks a versatile, reliable, service-oriented individual to become our new Public Services Associate in Youth Services. Our staff is committed to providing a high level of service to all, and works to make it happen across departments and divisions. We are looking for an energetic self-starter who functions well both independently and as part of a group, and possesses a robust work ethic.
Responsibilities include planning and conducting story times for young children and families, and working at our Information Desk, including: assisting patrons with identifying and locating materials, answering reference questions, homework help, and providing instructional support and troubleshooting for use of the library's electronic resources. The position also coordinates programs and events with outside vendors and performers, and assists with planning and organizing in-house events. Other responsibilities include programming for school-age youth, creating and maintaining booklists and displays, and providing readers advisory service to library patrons.

- keyboarding skills
- a high level of proficiency using the Internet and common online tools
- substantial experience using Microsoft Office software
- the ability to communicate very well in both written and spoken English
Candidates must have a Bachelor's degree. Preference will be given to candidates possessing one or more of the following: previous work experience with children and families; Spanish language skills; a good sense of humor.
The position averages 22 hours a week (44 hours per biweekly pay period). The position involves one shift every week from 8:45 am-1 pm on Mondays, and one shift every week from 8:45 am-1 pm on Tuesdays, one shift every week from 1 pm-5 pm on Wednesdays and one shift every week from 8:45 am -5 pm on Fridays. There is also one shift every fourth week from 8:45 am -5 pm on Saturdays, and one shift every eighth week from 12:45 pm -5 pm on Sundays.
Benefits will include: Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund (IMRF), sick leave, and vacation leave (with 3 years of service).
